Y'all, I am having a great day today. I am feeling the best that I have in about a zillion years. Well, really, it's the best I have felt in exactly nine weeks. Exactly nine weeks ago, I was in the GW Hospital Emergency Room, after being hit by a car while out on a run.
But today, TODAY, it's like this:
(Though, a beach and some bubbly would be pretty darn nice.) (And now I need to go watch Trading Places, one of my all-time favorite movies.)
But seriously. I feel GREAT today. I have a snazzy new lululemon headband on (I know the CEO is an ass, but damn, I love their headbands.)
I also found these lovely head wrap/headband thingies on Etsy, courtesy of the lovely Emily Genest (@EKGenest) on Twitter. I bought this Aztec Spirit one:
And I might have to go back for the elephants:
These head wraps look gorgeous - they're only $10 and $1 from each one goes to a local Make A Wish chapter! Awesomeness on all levels!
I also sort of accidentally bought these shoes yesterday:
I didn't mean to; I was just reading Belle's Capitol Hill Style blog, because I like looking at the pretty, pretty things she finds, and I clicked on a link, and well, when you're faced with a super cute black and white pony flat at a reasonable price, and your physical condition means heels aren't such a good idea right now, your credit card practically jumps out of the wallet, you know? Anyhow, that is my story and I am sticking to it.
While we are on the topic of Stuff I Have Recently Bought to Make Me Feel Better, I will link to this Columbia down jacket (I have it in purple, which is now sold out); these Columbia snow boots (I thought it prudent that I have good snow boots to prevent any further mishaps this winter); and the cream colored Tinley Road cocoon sweater from Piperlime, which I would link to, but apparently it sold out, for good reason because it is so cozy and I haven't wanted to take it off. It has been a long, boring, cold, depressing winter so far, y'all, and you're welcome - I shopped on the internet for all of you.
But TODAY. Today, I took my first shower in more than a week (wasn't allowed b/c of the healing surgery), soaking under the spray until I was pruny, listening to Taylor Swift's "1989" (I'm as shocked as you about how much I like it). I put on that new purple jacket, donned a handmade hat from the kind, generous and talented Rachel (@am_doingmybest), a Peruvian alpaca scarf from my friend Fiorella, and I walked the heck out of my house just to do a couple of errands for the first time in nine weeks. I went across the street to drop off the dry cleaning. Then, THEN! I went another whole block to the coffee shop for an egg, bacon & cheese sandwich on a bagel. Because I CAN. I'm hardly limping at all on my left leg now; my knee and ankle are still a little stiff and sore, but they get better and stronger every day. It's crazy how walking a couple of blocks on a sunny day makes you practically DRUNK WITH FREEDOM when you haven't been able to do anything even close to that for weeks on end.
Crossing streets still scares the hell out of me. It probably will for....awhile. But I am out there, out there, in the world, feeling more like myself than I have for nine weeks.
Oh LADY. I am so happy for you! This feeling of being free is VICTORIOUS. It's been such a long road, and you deserve to WALK to the end of it xoxoxooxox
